Endometriosis Awareness
March is a time dedicated to shedding light on a condition that affects approximately 1 in 7 Australian women and those assigned female at birth by age 49. Despite its prevalence, discussions about endometriosis remain limited, leading to delayed diagnoses and unnecessary suffering. By fostering open conversations, we can break the stigma and drive meaningful change.
Understanding Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it, causing pain, fertility issues, and reduced participation in daily activities
Symptoms can vary but often include:
- Pelvic pain, especially during menstruation
- Pain during intercourse
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Fatigue
- Bowel and urinary issues
If you or someone you know experiences these symptoms, it’s crucial to consult a General Practitioner (GP) for proper evaluation and management.
Brisbane Lights Up Yellow on March 10th!
In support of Endometriosis Awareness Month, several Brisbane landmarks will illuminate in yellow, symbolizing hope and solidarity with those affected. Notable light-ups include:
- Story Bridge: Lit yellow on March 10 and 14
- Kangaroo Point Bridge: Also participating in the yellow illumination
- Victoria Bridge: Joining the initiative to raise awareness
We encourage residents and visitors to witness these illuminations, share photos on social media using hashtags like #EndoEnlightened and #MarchIntoYellow, and tag @EndometriosisAustralia to amplify awareness.
Take Action: Consult Your GP
Early diagnosis and intervention are vital. If you experience symptoms associated with endometriosis, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment with your GP. They can provide guidance, support, and treatment options tailored to your needs.
Spread the Word
Awareness is a powerful tool. Share information about endometriosis with friends, family, and colleagues. Participate in local events, wear yellow throughout March, and utilize social media to educate others. Together, we can create a community that understands, supports, and advocates for those affected by endometriosis.
