We take pride in offering comprehensive aviation medicals to ensure the health and safety of pilots and individuals involved in aviation activities. We have experienced GPs at Top Health Doctors Underwood, specialising in aviation medicine. Our doctors understand the unique medical requirements and regulations for aviation personnel. With their expertise, our doctors perform thorough examinations, assessing the physical and mental well-being of pilots, air traffic controllers, and other aviation professionals. Our doctors are officially appointed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA) as Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME). They are members of The Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ASAM). Our doctors have undergone specific Aviation Medicine training with the obligatory certifying examination and are awarded The Australian Certificate in Civil Aviation Medicine (Aviation Medicine Unit, Monash University) and CASA Regulatory Aviation Medicine Certificate.
Please log onto your MyCASA Portal to register, pay the CASA processing fee and answer all the relevant online questions as directed by CASA.
Bring along a spare pair of glasses (in addition to the pair you are wearing) if you have refractile eye problems [e.g., nearsightness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia)]
If you have a regular GP, please bring along recent blood tests (within last 3 months) that include fasting lipids (HDL, LDL, TG, total cholesterol level) and fasting blood sugar level. Otherwise, we can organise the blood tests for you on the day of the medical.
Please go to your nearest optometrist to have a fundoscopy eye check (which is usually bulk billed if you have a Medicare card) and bring the report to us on the day. If you are applying for Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate the first-time, your vision will be further formally assessed by a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist (DAO).
We may perform an electrocardiogram (ECG) (a simple, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of the heart) on you and we may test your hearing (in a dedicated Audiology booth, that conforms to the strict Australian statutory requirement of AS / NZS 1269.4: 2005), in addition to a series of other clinical assessments.
CASA may require additional tests and assessment, to seek further clarification of your health.

Aviation medicine is a unique field and is concerned with the interaction between the aviation environment and human physiological and psychological systems. It is a specialised subset of the wider field of occupational medicine. The main emphasis of the Aviation Medicine Unit is on the understanding the implications of exposure to the flight environment on human performance. As such, it is fundamentally concerned with health consequences in pilots, aircrew and aircraft passengers.
Feel free to book an appointment with our Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) on (07) 31330822 if you have any issues related to flying or licensing whether you are a pilot, flight crew, air traffic controller or an airline passenger.
This service is available at Top Health Doctors Underwood only. Please phone the clinic to book an Aviation Medical Appointment (Do not Book online).
