Flu Shot

Flu vaccinations – 2022 Flu Season is COMING

Vaccinations for influenza are most likely going to be more important this year. There have been lower rates of vaccination than normal in Australia since the covid pandemic hit, and our level of exposure to incoming variants has been reduced with borders being closed.

It is thought that with the borders now being open, and many of us mingling in closer contact as we get our lives back to normal, the flu may resurge.

What are the complications of the flu?

Generally, the flu isn’t usually serious if you are young and healthy. Many may feel miserable when they have the flu, but the symptoms should normally go away in 1-2 weeks. However, in some cases, children and adults may develop complications. These may include:

  • Pneumonia
  • Bronchitis
  • Asthma flare-ups
  • Heart problems
  • Ear infections
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome

An annual vaccination is the best way to protect you and your family against the flu. Why not get in early, get your flu shot and get protected?

Flu Vaccinations will be available at Top Health Doctors Clinics in April.

The Influenza vaccination is free under the National Immunisation Program for at risk people. You are eligible for a FREE flu vaccine if you are:

  • 6 months to less than 5 years of age
  • An adult aged 65 years and over
  • An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged 6 months and over
  • pregnant women (during any stage of pregnancy)
  • aged 6 months and over with a medical condition which increases the risk of complications

If you are not eligible for a free vaccine, we also have private flu vaccinations available.

Still need a covid booster?

ATAGI has advised that influenza vaccines can be co-administered (on the same day) with a COVID-19 vaccine.
