Flu Shot

The importance of the annual flu vaccine – get your flu shot in our Brisbane clinics

The flu vaccine plays a crucial role in safeguarding public health and preventing the spread of influenza, a highly contagious respiratory illness. Each year, the flu virus undergoes mutations, making it challenging to predict the strains that will circulate. However, the flu vaccine remains essential because it significantly reduces the risk of infection and its potential complications, especially among vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic health conditions.

By getting the influenza vaccine, individuals not only protect themselves but also contribute to building herd immunity, shielding those who are unable to receive the vaccine due to medical reasons.

What are the complications of the flu?

Generally, the flu isn’t usually serious if you are young and healthy. Many may feel miserable when they have the flu, but the symptoms should normally go away in 1-2 weeks. However, in some cases, children and adults may develop complications. These may include:

  • Pneumonia
  • Bronchitis
  • Asthma flare-ups
  • Heart problems
  • Ear infections
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome and death.
