Dr Hanan Al-Taher graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from Basrah University, Iraq, in 1997. After completing her initial postgraduate medical training across several healthcare facilities in Iraq, she moved to Dubai, where she worked for 16 years in a range of clinical settings.

In 2019, Dr Al-Taher relocated to Australia. She worked in general practice in Tannum Sands, Gladstone, from 2021 to 2025 before moving to Brisbane.

As part of her ongoing professional development, Dr Al-Taher completed the MRCGP [International] from the United Kingdom in 2010 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners (FRCGP) in 2025.

Dr Al-Taher has special interests in the management of chronic medical conditions, including diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, osteoporosis, and chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD and asthma. She is also passionate about preventative health, travel medicine and vaccinations, mental health, Aboriginal health, and comprehensive general health assessments.

Her clinical focus further includes child and women’s health, including contraceptive management and Mirena insertion and removal.
