At Top Health Doctors, we offer medicinal cannabis.
Some of our doctors have taken further study and achieved a deeper understanding of medicinal cannabis. A select group of patients may find medicinal cannabis beneficial.
The cannabis plant has been used as a medicine in many cultures, dating back thousands of years. Lately, there is increasing evidence known in regards to the health benefits of medicinal cannabis.
This evidence, supported by many anecdotal case histories and compassionate access media profiles, has led to the legalization of medicinal cannabis in over 30 countries including Australia, USA and Canada. In Australia, medicinal cannabis was legalized at the federal level in 2016.
What is Cannabis?
Cannabis contains compounds called Cannabinoids and hundreds of other compounds. Cannabinoids work on an unique signaling system found in all vertebrates, including humans, called the Endocannabinoid System.
The Endocannabinoid System has important regulatory function throughout the human body, and is implicated in neural development, immune function, appetite, metabolism and energy, digestion, memory, sleep / wake cycle, regulation of stress / emotional state and many other bodily functions.
What is the difference between medical cannabis vs recreational cannabis, which is also known as Marijuana?
The medicinal cannabis is different from recreational black market Marijuana as it is grown in a tightly controlled laboratory – like environment, free from pesticides and impurities. The quality of such product needs to comply with a very high Australian Therapeutic Goods Standard known as TG0 93.
While the use of crude Marijuana for recreational use remains illegal in many parts of Australia, the medicinal cannabis extracted from the cannabis plant frequently involve isolating useful Cannabinoids and refining the process to minimize harm.
Medicinal Cannabis contains different levels and different types of Cannabinoids dependent on which medical condition they are used for.
Medicinal cannabis is now used to treat a wide range of conditions. These include chronic pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in cancer treatment, palliative care, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy plus many other medical conditions.
Please give us a call and book in to have a comprehensive medical assessment. Medicinal cannabis may be the right treatment for your medical condition.
